How do I master changes successfully?

It does not matter whether in a business or private context. Again and again we are facing big changes. Mostly we would prefer to leave everything as it is. Even if we know that it no longer makes sense and we should dare a change.

We do this, because it is familiar to us and we believe in finding security in it. Maybe it was like that, but time goes on and things change. The “felt or believed” security often becomes a risk or a burden. Rather, we dream of better times or complain about the existing, instead of going into action and initiating the change.

Systems or projects that used to be useful years ago are no longer lucrative today. To integrate a new system requires time, courage and, above all, openness to it.

HOW CAN I INSPIRE MYSELF FOR A CHANGE?

Often the change is required from the management level. If you are now confronted with accomplished facts and if you had no possibility to participate in this process, emotions are involved. The resulting “normal” reaction is to resist and rebel against. From a personal or emotional point of view, this resistance has its justification.

Of course, you can rebel against it and be completely convinced that the project is a total nonsense. However, that will cost YOU a lot of energy and in the end the change will still be made.

DECIDE YOURSELF – OR LIFE WILL DECIDE FOR YOU!

Especially big changes sometimes challenge us tremendously. Consciously or unconsciously we feel overwhelmed, afraid of not being good enough or to fail, or that others are better or we are too slow, just to name a few examples. To counteract these emotions, you can proceed as follows:

1. ACCEPT your resistance, because emotions show up for a reason.

2. ACCEPT the new process and try to be as neutral as possible. Develop an (inner) picture of how it can be when the change is successfully done.

3. If the change interferes with your private life (for example, you need more time at the beginning, changes in working hours, different working space, etc.) – find solutions.

WHO ROLLS PROBLEMS WILL REAP MORE PROBLEMS.
WHO SEEKS POSSIBILITIES, WILL FIND SOLUTIONS.

I know – that’s easily said and sometimes hard to implement. Nevertheless, I am firmly convinced that we can find a solution for every problem if we want to.

4. Be active and get all the information you need. Do research, study, ask, go into details and analyze until you start to develop a plan.
5. Proceed step by step.

EVERY THOUSAND METER RUN BEGINS WITH THE FIRST STEP.

If you are trying to start with the third step or maybe even with the end-result you will not reach your goal. The chance of being overstrained is huge and you can easily lose track of your goal …

6. Think carefully about what your first step should be and go for it. Often, the second step is only clear afterwards. Do not hurry – Strength lies in piece!

With this step-by-step approach, you will feel much safer, not overwhelmed and thus reach your goal faster and better.

NOTHING IS MORE RESISTANT THAN THE CHANGE.

Be curious and creative like a child. Full of joy and confidence, they explore the world. And when they fall, they get up again ;-).

I wish you much courage, strength and joy in everything you do and look forward to a next time.
